What should you pay attention to when selecting a coreless brushless DC motor?

Coreless brushless DC motors utilize semiconductor switching devices to achieve electronic commutation, replacing traditional contact-based commutators and brushes. They are widely used in applications such as cassette recorders, video recorders, electronic instruments, and automated office equipment. What should you pay attention to when selecting a coreless brushless DC motor? Let’s explore this with WKX MOTOR.

Key Considerations When Selecting a Coreless Brushless DC Motor:

1. Voltage The voltage is provided by the electronic switching circuit controlled by the position sensor output. When choosing a coreless motor, the first step is to select the correct voltage. Based on the customer’s needs, choose the rated voltage and ensure the driver’s voltage parameters are appropriate. Make sure the operating voltage does not exceed the driver’s specified range during no-load and full-load conditions.

2. Current When selecting the driver’s peak current, the method is to base it on the motor’s rated input current, Ir (A). The peak current should be Ip (A) = 2 × Ir to ensure the driver’s output current has sufficient engineering margin during operation. If the motor’s rated output power (or maximum output power), Pr (W), and the driver voltage, Vr (V), are known, the peak current should be Ip (A) ≥ 4 × Pr / Vr.

3. Operating Temperature Parameters can be set based on the motor’s specifications, but these should be tailored to the specific motor model. The operating temperature range must also be considered, as a wider temperature range typically results in a higher cost.

4. Resistance To ensure the driver operates normally and meets power insulation requirements, the insulation resistance between the motor’s Hall sensor ground wire and the motor winding wire, as well as between the Hall ground wire, winding wire, and the motor housing, should be greater than 100 MΩ at 500 VDC. Additionally, the motor should withstand 600 VAC / 50 Hz / 1 mA for 1 second without breakdown.

This concludes the introduction to key considerations when selecting a coreless brushless DC motor. If you need to purchase a coreless motor, please contact Shenzhen WKX MOTOR Co., Ltd.
